James Smorenburg completed his Bachelors of Science (Honours) at the University of Guelph (Canada). James is currently a MSc Thesis student in the Human Health and Nutritional sciences at the University of Guelph under the supervision of Dr. David Mutch (PhD). James' research involves understanding how dietary omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid metabolism regulates adipose tissue inflammation in a model of diet-induced obesity. Our current projects use the Fads2 knockout mouse model to independently determine the effects of alpha-linolenic acid and eicosapentaenoic/docosahexaenoic acid on metabolic processes of skeletal muscle, liver and adipose tissue.
