Geert Steenbeke is currently the Intermediates & Synthetics Products Senior Principal Engineer in ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company. He earned a master’s degree in chemistry at the University of Gent, Belgium where he also completed a Ph. D. in organic analytical chemistry. He joined Exxon Chemical in 1989 as a research chemist and subsequently held various commercial and marketing positions after returning to Technology in 2019. His interests focus on the derivatives of the Chemical Intermediates product portfolio (Higher Olefins, LAO’s, Alcohols and Acids). Amongst those, understanding the performance of the branched alcohol surfactant derivatives have, and continue to play an important role.
