Prof. Shin-ya Morita was born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1977. After graduating from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Kyoto University in 2000, he studied in the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Kyoto University under the supervision of Prof. Tetsurou Handa and obtained his Ph.D. degree from the university in 2005. Then, he joined the research group of Prof. Kazumitsu Ueda in the Graduate School of Agriculture at Kyoto University as a Research Fellow of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. In 2006, he moved to the group of Prof. Shuji Kitagawa at Kobe Pharmaceutical University as an Assistant Professor. In 2011, he was appointed an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy (Prof. Tomohiro Terada) at Shiga University of Medical Science Hospital. Currently, he is a Professor in the same department.
He was awarded the Young Scientist Award of the Membrane Society of Japan in 2012, the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan Award for Young Scientists in 2015, the Award of the Japanese Society of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences in 2020, and the Oleoscience Award of Japan Oil Chemists’ Society in 2022. His major research fields are biochemistry and biophysics of lipids.
