Dr. Richard Ashby PhD is a senior research / lead scientist in the Sustainable Biofuels and Coproducts Research Unit (SBCP) at the USDA, ARS, Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC). He has 32 years of research experience in the areas of biopolymer and biosurfactant synthesis and molecular characterization. Dr. Ashby currently serves as Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Oil Chemists’ Society (JAOCS) and in an editorial capacity for 3 additional journals and served as co-editor of 2 books on Biobased Surfactants published by Academic Press and AOCS Press. In 2008, he was a member of the research group that was awarded the Glycerine Innovation Award bestowed by AOCS and in 2019 he was elected Fellow of the AOCS. He is the author or coauthor of 150 publications, 160 presentations and holder of 9 patents.
