Lee Moats has been passionate about agriculture from a very young age growing up on the family farm at Riceton, Saskatchewan. That passion led Lee to a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan and a career as a Professional Agrologist and farmer.
Lee has always valued community and sustainability. While working with Ducks Unlimited Canada he provided sustainable yet practical agricultural solutions to western Canada that support biodiversity and ecological health in a managed agricultural environment. That role relied heavily on the broad base of knowledge he developed while working as an Extension Agrologist for Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food and through his lifetime of farming. Lee’s career with Ducks Unlimited and tireless and enthusiastic promotion of winter wheat was celebrated by Dr. Brian Fowler’s registration of “Moats” winter wheat.
Lee has been committed to community service and has served as a Director of the Saskatchewan Soil Conservation Association, a founding Commissioner of the Saskatchewan Winter Cereals Commission, was a Director and past Chair of Saskatchewan Pulse Growers, was a Director and past Chair of Pulse Canada and served as a member of Canada’s Economic Strategy Table on Agrifood. At his community level he served as a director and President of the Riceton and Cross Country Coops and has been a volunteer firefighter since 1976.
Lee farms with his wife Laurie, son Joshua and daughter in law Lindsey. Nothing is more important to Lee than family and the farm which has been in the family since 1910.
