There is a need for safe and effective laundering solutions for crew member missions to the moon (and eventually Mars) given the cost and feasibility of clothing replenishment to the International Space Station (ISS) today. In partnership with NASA and the ISS, P&G has developed a liquid laundry detergent formulation that meets feasibility requirements for aqueous laundering in space. This presentation will explore the design constraints, strategies, and performance requirements for a space detergent, while also discussing how reapplication of these principles will begin to resolve emission reductions, resource scarcity and degradability concerns for consumer detergents on planet Earth.
