Modern lipid analysis is based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) using both online and offline tools. Identification of regioisomers, lipids with the fatty acids located on specific positions of the glycerol backbones, continues to be an important component of complete structural analysis of phospholipids and triacylglycerols. Since digestion of lipids is regiospecific, an understanding of the structures of regioisomers allows the correlation of components of a diet to the dietary response. This session provides presentations describing the latest technology applied to regioisomer analysis.
These days, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and R code play increasingly important roles in data analysis. This session includes presentations on the use of R for quantitative analysis of triacylglycerols, and for machine learning approaches in preclinical and clinical studies using the R caret package to reveal intricate connections between lipid metabolism and clinically measured outcomes.
