Plant-based dietary patterns are promoted for their health benefits and continue to gain traction across consumer segments. Adoption of plant-based dietary patterns is largely underpinned by replacing animal protein foods with plant proteins. This has spawned significant growth in food innovation and expanded plant-based offerings in retail and specialty channels. For food innovation to effectively assist consumers to transition to diets that index higher in plant protein, nutritional considerations are required by consumers and within innovation pipelines. This presentation will discuss plant-based dietary patterns with a focus on food innovation, protein, protein quality, and nutrient density.
